LCF does the Left or What Now?!

Well hello there Darlings,Writing to you from the west coast, where if you didn't know, I now call home!I know what you are thinking. YOU, LCF, ON THE WEST COAST? You, with your snark and judgement and love of the Atlantic ocean?Well, darlings, sometimes in life you have to take a chance. And an opportunity came up that I found irresistible and so I have upended our cozy existence in Maine to bring us to Sonoma County, California. Our life in Maine was idyllic and since I am speaking in past tense, I will over-romanticize it, as I tend to do with anything sentimental in life. We had a wonderful home, incredible friends and jobs that provided for us. Stanley James had incredible outdoors to run around and try to catch birds, I had a garden from which most of our vegetables came in the summer and le hubs had a band that kept his creativity flowing. But as you know, I loathe the winter and believe I suffer from mild SADD. So every year when the winter comes around, I promise myself that it is the last one. And darlings, this year, it was.So here I am on the west coast, in the middle of wine country, all by myself. le hubs and the pup will be arriving via road trip with my mother (!!!) the day before Christmas. I am living in an apartment that I would have scoffed at even as a 16 year old. In fact, this apartment reminds of the suburban complex in which my ex boyfriend lived. The kind with laminate EVERYTHING, beige CARPET, and a mailbox that you have to walk to. Gone is my interior stained glass window, hardwood floors and beautiful old furniture. But darlings, this is not permanent. It is a place to hang our hats until we truly figure out if A. The West Coast is the right place for us and (more probably) B. the lay of the land around here and where we can find something with hardwood floors AT LEAST.One thing that has also changed about my lifestyle is my drive time. I have a 30 minute drive each way to work (in my new tiny car) which has actually been pretty great and allowed me to keep up on ALL of my podcasts AND audiobooks.

LCF DRIVE TIME PODCASTS

So darlings, although I am feeling kind of lonely out here and missing the ease in which I lived most of my life on the east coast - I have to say it looks like I have been keeping myself busy (old episodes of Top Chef also help).Culturally, it seems like I may have a bit more brain space and time to dedicate to you on the West Coast. As a trusted confidante said to me "You have to decide what defines you now that it's not stress." And he is right, and I owe it to you, and to myself to at least take a crack at it.Next time - a few observations of California living, most notably desiring just a modicum of urgency.over and out from the left coast.xoxolcf
